2ACT Foundation, the City of Kraków, Chór w Kontakcie and Kontakt Space for Dance and Movement. Join us to sing the Christmas carols of the world!
If you:
- are a foreigner living in Kraków (permanently or for at least a few months)
- enjoy singing, and love Christmas carols
- think it’s important to #stayathome, but are missing spending time with others
- would like to integrate safely and meet new people, but don’t know how and where to
- like Kraków and want to be part of cultural life in your city
Join the free project Joy to the World! Learn carols and Christmas songs from around the world with us! Add new songs to your festive repertoire and learn to sing the parts!
All foreign residents of Kraków are invited to join Chór w Kontakcie, Kraków’s Multicultural Ambassadors for 2019, for musical workshops.
Together we will arrange and perform songs celebrating the festive season and the New Year in various languages of the world and diverse cultural and religious contexts. The project will culminate with a joint Christmas concert transmitted online!
The project will be overseen from an organisational and artistic perspective by Wassim Ibrahim – musician, composer, founder and leader of Chór w Kontakcie and president of the 2Act Foundation.
The Joy to the World project aims to combat the feeling of social isolation and loneliness, especially at this difficult time. The best way we know is to sing together. Join us!
Joy to the World is an event accompanying the Multicultural Festival The New Cracovians 20202.

LET’S INTEGRATE IN A FESTIVE ATMOSPHERE!
DETAILED INFORMATION
ORGANISATIONAL MEETING, 26 November
At the organisational meeting, you will have the chance to get to know each other and talk about your singing preferences, abilities and limitations. You will meet the leader, Wassim Ibrahim, and assistants from Chór w Kontakcie (we’re very friendly!) We’ll decide on a plan of action and repertoire, taking into account the composition, abilities and needs of the group. The meeting will take place at Kontakt Space for Dance and Movement or online, depending on the epidemiological situation.
MUSICAL WORKSHOPS, 27 November – 18 December
The four workshops will take place in hybrid form: at Kontakt Space for Dance and Movement and/or online – depending on the current government COVID-19 guidelines. Each meeting will comprise integration, a warm-up, rhythmic exercises, and group singing (approx. 3-4 hours) – details to be confirmed at the organisational meeting. Wassim Ibrahim will take care of the artistic side. Members of Chór w Kontakcie will also take part in the rehearsals. Each vocal section (sopranos, altos, tenors, basses) will also have their own volunteer mentor from the choir.
Online consultations – the leader will also be available via Zoom on Thursdays from 18.30 to 19.30.
We guarantee a friendly atmosphere and the joy of singing together!
CONCERT, 15 December-31 December
The project will conclude with a joint concert open to the general public, transmitted online and recorded on video. During the performance of the choir and participants we will present the Christmas and New Year repertoire we worked on at the workshops. The music will come from various corners of the world and express the spirit and atmosphere of communal celebration expressed in various cultural traditions.
Depending on epidemiological and weather conditions, the concert will take place either outside (e.g. on the Mały Rynek or another city square) or on the stage of one of our partner cultural institutions. Format: live with/without audience or online.
*ADAPTATION TO THE EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION
The integration meeting and workshops will be held in the extremely spacious, high-ceiling and well-ventilated rooms of Kontakt Space for Dance and Movement, observing the necessary social distancing and all current epidemiological requirements.
Should the COVID-19 situation worsen, the workshops will take place in sub-groups or in a hybrid format (online and in person), or only online.
We care about integration, but your safety is even more important.
